Glub Glub

In case you didn't know, it's been raining in Virginia since Sunday.
Petunia in her raincoat
That doesn't make for happy pugs. We like to swim, but not in the yard.
Can you see the standing water?

This is just water that can't soak into the ground because
IT'S BEEN RAINING SINCE SUNDAY.
That's mom's foot underwater up to the straps on her flops!
Look what a mess this is. And it's not going to stop until tomorrow. So far, mom has emptied her rain gauge three times, meaning we have had at least 12 inches of rain since Sunday.

Our deck is covered in pine needles and acorns.

Off to build an ark!

Mean people suck

Sometime people just suck.

It’s bad enough that dogs get dumped. Too old, too energetic, shed too much, whatever the excuse is. But when a dog gets literally dumped out of a MOVING CAR, that’s just obscene.

That’s what happened to Dax, a pug mix with Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue. He was thrown out of a moving car, then hit by another car because he was running after his owners. It’s enough to make you cry, scream and want to bite people on the butt.

But instead, MAPR is holding a raffle to raise money for the surgeries Dax will need to walk again.

We understand that things are really hard for people everywhere, but if you have an extra $10 you can donate, please consider donating to Dax. If you can’t, just send good wishes and healing pug hugs to him. That’s really important, too.

Thanks in advance.

Happy Birthday to mom!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, our mom was born on September 22.

Our first family photo.
We were her birthday present to herself three years ago.
No make up. Don't judge.
Happy Birthday, Mom!
We promise to be good all day. Or at least while we are sleeping.

Treat Tuesday!

If you're on Twitter, you know that it's #woofWednesday and #followFriday. Today, @EmmathePug coined #TreatTuesday.

And boy, is it ever. Today, our box from Best Bully Sticks came.

We had to check the box out, make sure it had everything we ordered.

It did. It had so many disgusting animal parts for us to gnaw on. From left to right, there are cow cheeks (the face kind), bison cartilage, beef back strips, tracheas and bison tendons.

Petunia starts with the bison tendon.

Isabelle enjoys hers in her crate.

Tallulah prefers to gnaw on hers on the couch.

Quincy only has 2 teeth so he doesn't really care for chews. He does savor a nice pupperoni, which is what he gets when it's (insert disgusting animal part here) chew time. Bone appetit!

Sort of good news

Mom had the day off today. He job gives her a free vacation day just for being born, so she picked today to take it. Her birthday is actually Wednesday, but she has class and training, blah blah blah. To celebrate being born, she got a crown which SO not the same as a tiara, by the way.

Anyway, mom was snoozing on the couch, letting the drugs wear off when the vet called. Our vet has us on the Plechner Protocol, which is a treatment for hormone imbalances which lead to hypersensitivities to foods, fleas, etc. We've been on it since March and have made some really impressive progress.

We used to chew and scratch ourselves bloody.

Petunia's cheek. When mom left for work
it was normal. This is 8 hours later.
Mom bought Benadryl all the time, 3 8-ounce bottles a week. We had to wear clothes all the time to keep the chewing down. It was sad. But since we started on the protocol, things have been radically different.

The vet said that we are stopping with the injections for now. Petunia is like a new dog, with thick beautiful fur. Tallulah has not done so well, although the itching has stopped. The vet thinks that she might not be handling the cortisone very well, causing her fur to thin and her skin to get sunburned.

Turns out, our outrageously expensive test results are not improving like they should. They certainly aren't reflecting the kind of results that our non-itching has shown. Our vet thinks we are an anomaly, so she's writing to Dr. Plechner himself to see what's up.

So the good news is that we might be able to stop the medicines and not be itchy. That's what we are hoping for. We will let you know!

On a related note, TG for pet insurance. If you don't have it, you might think about it. Our blood tests are $648 each time. Since March, we've cost mom over $3000. Pet insurance paid 80% back. That's a lot of bully sticks.
